Like so many other gifts gone wrong, gift cards are great in theory. The problem here isn't so much with the idea as it is with the execution we put off actually cashing in on that free money, until somewhere along the line we forget about it altogether. In fact, our Dimespring team did some investigating and found out that roughly $2 billion goes unused in gift cards each year. You read that right  that's billion with a "b." Here are some ideas for what we could have done with that money instead of letting it sit idly in our wallets.
